Specifically, those grants have helped improve academic achievement for first-year students, and helped equity close gaps for Hispanic students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) disciplines. The grant builds from the momentum and accomplishments of the HSI STEM and HHMI grants to Humboldt. We have a particular emphasis on aquaculture, wildlife on farms, and rangeland conservation. In particular, this work aims to engage natural resource students at the nexus of agriculture and natural resource conservation. The purpose of these grants is to enable Humboldt to better serve Latinx and other underrepresented students in natural resource sciences, and help students obtain extra-curricular experiential learning opportunities to advance their careers. We also work in close collaboration with Fernando Paz of El Centro Académico Cultural and the Working Landscapes division of Point Blue Conservation Science. Matt Johnson (Dept Wildlife), Rafael Cuevas-Uribe (Dept Fisheries Biology), and Susan Marshall (Dept Forestry & Wildland Resources). Like what? I didn't smile enough on my DL?!?!? This company said I was approved to begin with just to collect my personal and business information. This work is funded by two grants from the US Dept of Agriculture's Hispanic Serving Institution and non-land grant university programs, awarded to Drs. I texted the rep and asked him what the hell was going on, and his reply was that he didn't know, maybe something in my documents the underwriter didn't like. As soon as they had everything they asked for, I received an email saying "unfortunately, we are unable to approve your loan at this time" I was so confused because I was already approved. He told me I needed to link my bank account and send them my ID, SSN, EIN of my business, references, void check, they even asked me to remove a fraud alert on my credit profile which was odd because what relevance did that have in order for Camino to access my credit profile like any other lender, but I did it anyway. I decided to take the loan so I responded to his email. He proceeds to send me an email resuming the conversation that we had with all the terms of the loan. ![]() I told him I needed to think about it because the interest was ridiculously high. ![]() The rep called me to go through the loan terms, he told me the amount I was approved for (which was $30K), their fee amount (which was very high), how much was going to be my monthly payments, my APR, and the date when my first payment would start. A few days later, I received an email saying "Congratulations, you are approved". The other rep did call me and asked me to send the last 4 months of my business account statements, so I did. I applied online, soon after I submitted the application, I received a call from a rep, he asked me a lot of questions and then told me I was going to receive another call from another rep. Be aware of this company, they just want your personal and financial information!! This was a total waste of time, please be careful.
